Learn about it!
Have you ever heard the expression above? It means that when we care about someone or something, we share with them – in good times or bad times. We share our happiness or our sadness with the people that we care about. It could be our parents, brother, sister, family, friend, teacher, or anyone that we love. Nevertheless, sometimes it is not easy to show them that we care about them. Some people can find it confusing, they have no idea on how to express their care. Well, don’t worry now, because in this lesson you are going to learn how to express care.Sharing is caring.
First thing first, if you care about someone, you have to show it to them so that they know. Remembering and congratulating them on their birthday, noticing the changes they made to their hair, comforting them when they are sad are the examples of small things that we can do to show them that we care. In the following are the examples of how to express your care.
What do you think?
Today is your friend’s birthday. You can’t meet her and congratulate her in person because you are not in town. So, you call her.
Maya : Hello, Maya’s speaking. Lala : Happy birthday to you..happy birthday to you (Lala is singing birthday song on the phone) Happy birthday, Maya, my best and beloved friend!!! Maya : Thank you so much, Lala. I’m so happy and touched hearing your voice right now.
Calling someone close to you just to tell them ‘happy birthday’ or congratulate them for the good things happen to them is a good way to show that you care about them. If you are too busy to call or you run out of money to make a phone call, you can send a text message to show them that you care about them.
Example 2
You are on your way to school. Your cell phone rings. You got an incoming text message from your father. “Take care on your way, sweetheart. Study hard at school. Don’t forget to eat your lunch. Have fun!”
Wouldn’t you feel happy if you receive that message in the morning from your parents, or your best friend, or someone you like? Even a small text message that you send could mean something big for someone.
When someone shows that they care about you, it is better to respond to it. How do we respond? Let’s take an example from the previous text message.
After you receive the text message from your father, you should reply it in order to give any response to the care he gives and to show that you also care about him.
“Sure, dad. I’ll study as hard as I could :D
Thanks, and have fun too!”
Have you ever heard the saying “a friend in need is a friend indeed”?
It means that a friend that would help you when you are in need is a true friend. A good friend will not only care for you when you are in your best state, but also when you are in your worst condition. Showing that you care when they are sick, or in a bad situation is also important.
Example 3 Bima: How are you, Anton? Are you feeling better?
Anton: No, I guess. I’m still feeling really sick.
Bima: Here. My mother made you some porridge. And I bring you the notes of today’s lesson.
Anton: Thank you very much, Bima. I don’t know what I would do without you.
Bima: That’s what friends are for. I hope you get better and come to school again soon.
Anton: Sure, thanks.
Doing something meaningful for them would be a better way to show that you care. However, if you can’t do something, expressing your care through words would be enough. They would, at the very least, know that you care about them and they would know that they are not alone.
